12 Jan 2008 - News Report from Separated IM

Frome Swimming Club hosted a very successful Separated Individual Medley at Frome Leisure Centre last weekend.  With invited swimmers from Westbury there were sixty-one competitors.  In this event each swimmer has to race the four disciplines of an individual medley, i.e. butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl, separately.  Times are recorded for each race and then added together with the swimmer with the shortest time overall declared the winner.  There were eight age groups from the youngest at 9 to the open swimmers and all the Frome swimmers were keen to impress their new coach, Karen Pinniger, who was watching on the sidelines.  She said that the evening was fantastic with some very notable performances across the whole age range.  Gold Medals were awarded to Charlie Head 9 years, Howie Phillips and Keira-Leigh Underhill, 10 years, Ryan Hann and Rachel Palarm 11 years, Adam Smart 12 years, Emily Dixon 13 years, Daniel Brown and Gina McGuinness 14 years, Antony Lockyer and Lucy Thomas Open.  Westbury too had some excellent swims, particularly in the Girls 9 years and 12 years age groups where Chloe White and Bryany Cornish took gold, as did Jordan Snedden in the boys 15 years.  Certificates were presented by Frome Swimming Club President, Mandy Crook and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were sponsored by Empire Surfacing and presented by Debbie McGuinness on their behalf.  The Club would like to thank all the officials who volunteered to help and FDC Law for their continued support.
