Frome Swimming Club - Excellence and Enjoyment

Learn to Swim Programme

Almost every Tuesday evening throughout the year, a dedicated band of volunteer ASA teachers, ASA assistant teachers and poolside helpers from Frome Swimming Club, teach 274 children to swim, from absolute beginners to ASA Complete Swimmer Award.

There are 11 grades in total, beginning with Learn To Swim [Water Confidence] at age 4. Entry into grades above Learn To Swim will be discussed with parents and their child will be placed in the appropriate grade for their ability.

To place your child’s name on our waiting list, contact Gill Phippen, Waiting List Secretary on 01373  462902 or Esther Levin, Grade Night Secretary on 01373 825292, both of whom will be happy to offer help and advice on any queries you may have regarding Grade Night.

The Learn to Swim programme runs in half hour slots from 6pm until 9pm on Tuesday evenings.

The children are taught over a 10 week period and then are assessed to see whether they are ready to move to the next stage.  You shouldn't worry if your child appears to be "stuck" at a certain level, rest assured the teachers are considering your child and whether they are ready for the challenges of the next phase.  It can be very daunting to move from the small pool to the big pool and likewise to start swimming lengths after they have been used to widths.

If you have concerns about your child's progress please speak to their teacher or the grade night secretary, Esther and they will be happy to discuss the situation with you.
